Though former Carolina nose tackle Maake Kemoeatu is visiting Ashburn on Tuesday, it’d surprise many if a contract was signed. One league source said that it’s “just a visit.” for the Redskins, it’s likely a fact-finding mission. There’s no doubt that the 6-foot-5, 345-pound Kemoeatu was a huge force in the middle for the Panthers. and as we’ve discussed before, there’s no doubt the Redskins have a major need at the nose tackle spot. (And that need only grew when the team released Cornelius Griffin last week.) but a lot has changed since Kemoeatu played his last NFL game. Kemoeatu missed all of last season after tearing his Achilles’ tendon in training camp. His recovery hasn’t gone smoothly — the initial surgery went well but he later required a secondary procedure — and nearly eight months after the initial tear, Kemoeatu still isn’t running. He’s not expected to be in football shape until at least training camp. The Durham (N.C.) Herald reported three weeks ago that “Kemoeatu was walking on a treadmill, and doing flexion exercises with resistance. He’s not quite ready to jog on a treadmill, and may not be for several weeks.” When an injured player hits the free-agency market, teams usually approach cautiously. In fact, many thought Kemoeatu might simply end up re-signing with Carolina at a lower salary than he was initially due. but the Redskins have a huge need, and it’s not surprising they wanted to see Kemoeatu in-person. They’ll want to see how his rehabilitation is going, but it’s not likely they’d extend a contract to a player unless they felt he’s medically sound.

FRISCO, Texas — The Southland Conference announced its men’s 2009-10 all-conference team on Tuesday, and two players from Nicholls State made the list.

Junior guard/forward Anatoly Bose was a first-team selection, and sophomore guard/forward Fred Hunter picked up honorable-mention honors.

Bose averaged 20.4 points per game during the regular season.

The Sydney, Australia native’s point per game average ranks 23rd in the nation heading into tonight’s game against Sam Houston State in the team’s Southland Conference Tournament opener at 6 p.m. from the Leonard E. Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.
